Keysight Technologies has announced a milestone in its ongoing collaboration with NTT DoCoMo and NTT Corp to develop channel modeling and wireless communication simulation technologies for 6G networks.
The trio reported milestones in measurement-driven channel modeling and distributed Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) simulation to help researchers evaluate next-generation wireless concepts.
The joint efforts are part of an existing memorandum of understanding (MoU), which focuses on 6G design, testing, and measurement.
The research aims to address industry challenges in evaluating how wireless systems perform in complex environments, including urban areas, indoor venues, and transport corridors. Standard field testing is often costly and difficult to replicate, while simplified laboratory models often omit propagation effects that influence beamforming, mobility, and network reliability.
In response to these limitations, Keysight and DoCoMo decided to use real-world radio propagation measurements, including channel impulse response (CIR) data, to refine laboratory-based simulation models.
At the same time, they are developing simulation-based evaluations for distributed MIMO systems, which use geographically separated antennas to manage network coverage and capacity. The project combines channel models with ray-based propagation techniques to provide a repeatable framework for analyzing 6G architectures prior to physical deployment.
The companies said that more findings from the collaboration are being presented at the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026 in Malaga, Spain.
In its previous update of the collaboration project, NTT and NTT DoCoMo announced the expansion of their collaborative 6G trials, welcoming new global partners (SK Telecom and Rohde & Schwarz) to join their core group of existing vendors, which included Keysight Technologies, Nokia, Ericsson, Fujitsu, and NEC.
The update highlighted major experimental progress, emphasizing milestone trials with Keysight Technologies regarding potential frequency bands, distributed MIMO technology, and advanced radio propagation modeling required for eventual 6G telecom deployment.
DoCoMo and NTT also emphasized at the time that they will continue to conduct trials in collaboration with major global and Japanese vendors as well as overseas telecom operators. They planned to further expand their partnerships and promote various initiatives to research and develop various mobile communication technologies.
In a separate Keysight innovation development, the testing giant recently updated its data center evaluation offering to aid validation of next-generation electrical and optical interconnects for AI-centric facilities.
The additions to its end-to-end optical and electrical solutions portfolio included the N1095DJCA, which is an optical transmitter conformance test application designed for IEEE 802.3dj and developed to enable conformal optical measurements.
On the electrical side, the N1091DJPA solution was designed to debug environments, enabling engineers to characterize transmitter behavior using half-rate clocking setups. According to Keysight, this makes it suitable for early silicon, application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), and system validation, aiding in uncovering margin, isolating issues, and informing design decisions.
