Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) appointed Jimmy Hougaard as its global channel compute leader.
Hougaard, who steps into the role on November 1, currently serves as compute director for high-velocity sales (HVS) in the Nordics. Writing on LinkedIn, HPE’s new compute lead wrote: “After an incredible decade at HPE … I will step into a global role within Simon Ewington's team. I have one mission which is: Win. We are here to be aggressive, intentional, and relentless in partnering with our channel ecosystem to take market share in compute, as evidenced by our recent actions. The opportunity in front of us is significant, and I could not be more energized about what we are going to accomplish together with our partners and customers."
The exec added: "Before I look ahead, I want to look back and say something that matters deeply to me. Ten years at HPE is not just a career milestone. It is a decade shaped by people who believed in me, challenged me, pushed me, and stood beside me.”
Per an internal email shared by CRN, HPE SVP Simon Ewington announced Hougaard’s appointment by commenting: “I am confident that Jimmy’s leadership, partner focus, and deep compute expertise will help us accelerate momentum in this critical area of our business and further strengthen how we bring HPE innovation to market through our channel ecosystem.
“His appointment reflects our continued commitment to sharpening our compute channel focus and positions us to capitalize on new opportunities created by our recent pricing actions, enabling partners to capture demand, enhance competitiveness, and drive profitable growth across the portfolio,” Ewington added.
HPE is currently riding a wave of goodwill following its recent decision to guarantee price quotes on compute, storage, and infrastructure below $1 million, while building out an aggressive sales strategy under HPE EVP and chief sales officer Phil Mottram, who took the hot seat back in September.
The rise and rise of Jimmy Hougaard
After a decade-long stint at Sweden’s Danoffice IT, Hougaard joined HPE in 2016 as a sales specialist on the SAP Hana cloud system, before becoming partner region manager for Denmark a year later. He would become enterprise account lead in 2020, swiftly followed by a promotion to country manager channel.
Hougaard in 2023 assumed the role of country manager specifically for cloud services, followed by another swift promotion to Nordic sales lead in late 2023. He took on his current title in January 2025, overseeing Denmark, Norway, Finland, the Baltics, and HPE’s Barcelona sales office.
The Nordics represent fruitful territory amid the ongoing AI compute buildout. According to data from the Norwegian Data Center Industry, installed capacity across the Nordics is projected to grow by up to 580 megawatts annually, while data center demand in the region will surge by up to 110% by 2030, according to data platform provider Ember.
Big names in the region include neocloud firm Nscale, whose Kvandal data center in Norway hosts compute for OpenAI, while both firms are driving a compute gigafactory project in Narvik, with networking technologies courtesy of Nokia.
In neighboring Sweden, neocloud CoreWeave is leasing capacity from two campuses in Stockholm. In addition, Nordic data center firm AtNorth is developing a second data center in the city, and GlobalConnect plans to triple internet capacity with a high-capacity fiber cabling project connecting Stockholm, Oslo, and Helsinki.
