Aruba networking sales GM Phil Mottram is set to take over as chief sales officer for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), with sales veteran Heiko Meyer departing the business after almost four decades.

The leadership change will see Mottram step up having served as GM of HPE Aruba Networking for the past four years. Before joining HPE, he was chief revenue officer at Zayo Group, and also served in sales leadership roles at Sprint, BT, and Telstra International, respectively.

During his time as GM of HPE Aruba, Mottram oversaw sizable revenue growth, extended the unit’s reach into markets like data centers and private 5G, as well as security via its secure access service edge (SASE) solution.

In a 2022 interview with SDxCentral, the executive outlined that HPE’s networking revenue growth stemmed from broadening its Aruba offerings, including its Aruba Central cloud-based networking management platform and network-as-a-service (NaaS) portfolio.

HPE CEO Antonio Neri described Mottram as “an exceptional fit for this role,” citing his leadership style and track record of driving growth.

“[Mottram’s] experience leading HPE Aruba Networking will facilitate strong connections across the entirety of HPE’s portfolio,” Neri added.

The Aruba GM replaces Meyer, who is set to retire after 38 years with the company, effective November 1.

“As the leader of Global Sales, Heiko led the largest sales transformation in HPE’s history, spearheading shifts in the go-to-market model that more seamlessly connected customers with relevant HPE solutions, while contributing to targeted market share gains,” Neri said.

The chief sales change comes amid a period of transition for HPE following its acquisition of Juniper Networks.

Ex-Weka VP Keith Moran recently joined up to lead its storage and data services for North America, as Adnan Bhutta shifted across to lead worldwide hybrid cloud ops software sales.

Juniper Networks' SVP of sales, Gordon Mackintosh, meanwhile, was brought in to lead HPE’s channel and partner networking sales following the $14 billion acquisition. Meanwhile, Rami Rahim, who was Juniper's CEO, now serves as president and GM of HPE’s Juniper-integrated networking business.
