Commvault is pushing deeper into cloud-centric cybersecurity resilience, announcing a new partnership with Delinea that brings privileged access management (PAM) controls directly into cloud-based backup and recovery.

The integration connects Delinea’s Secret Server with the Commvault Cloud platform, giving enterprises centralized control over the credentials used in backup and recovery workflows as those data operations move from on-premises environments into the cloud.

For many organizations, backup and recovery systems rely on a growing number of machine identities – including service accounts, APIs, and automation scripts – to move and restore data across environments. Those credentials are often long-lived and broadly permissioned, making them attractive targets for attackers.

Commvault said the new integration allows customers to manage and rotate credentials used in cloud backup environments, issue “just-in-time access” for each backup or restore job, and automatically revoke privileges once tasks are completed. The approach is designed to reduce standing access in cloud environments while maintaining operational continuity.

“Commvault unifies data security, identity resilience, and cyber recovery on one platform – and continues to expand the power of the platform through integrations that deliver exceptional value for customers,” Commvault Chief Business Development Officer Alan Atkinson noted in a statement.

The partnership also addresses governance and compliance challenges that organizations face as data protection workflows span multiple platforms and regions. By enforcing least-privilege access and generating detailed audit logs, the integration is intended to help IT and security teams meet regulatory requirements including SOX, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and GDPR.

From Delinea’s perspective, the move positions identity security as a foundational layer for cloud resilience rather than a standalone control.

“True cyber resilience depends on both the ability to recover data and the security of the recovery process itself,” Delinea President Chris Kelly added. “By extending our privileged access management capabilities to Commvault Cloud, we are advancing identity security and helping ensure recovery systems remain trustworthy in cloud environments.”

The integration is available globally at no additional cost to joint customers.
