Starlink partnered with WEI on an enterprise connectivity solution that extends to security solutions from the likes of Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

The WEI Connect offering allows organizations to deploy internet via Starlink transmission across fixed or mobile sites. Specifically, the solution offers Starlink’s Mini, Standard, and Performance user terminals, with rapid deployment enabled by preconfigured deployment kits and local installation services.

The IT solutions provider touted a centralized performance dashboard integrated with Starlink API, providing enterprise-wide real-time telemetry, including usage tracking, link speed, throughput, latency, and signal quality.

WEI Connect also expands on WEI’s SD-WAN and secure access as a service (SASE) integration services by validating and integrating Starlink with platforms from HPE Aruba Networking, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Cato Networks.

SASE in space

Of those companies, Cisco currently has some Starlink relations, boasting an integration with the Elon Musk satellite vendor via its Catalyst SD-WAN service. Announced in 2024, the service routes traffic across up to eight Starlink satellite dishes and integrates with cloud-based security service edge (SSE) services to allow inspection of internet-bound traffic through a cloud security stack. Remote sites using Starlink can establish encrypted IPSec tunnels to cloud gateways in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, while an on-ramp service provides path optimization for software as a service (SaaS) and web applications on the internet.

HPE, meanwhile, has a SASE case study for cruise liners via Starlink integration into the HPE Aruba Networking EdgeConnect platform. In the example, Starlink terminals provide satellite uplinks and downlinks into pairs of EdgeConnect SD-WAN appliances deployed across the ship’s two redundant data centers. Starlink handles the satellite and radio-band handoffs, while EdgeConnect manages the enterprise network layer.

With its offering, the Salem, New Hampshire-headquartered WEI appears to be one of a few vendors offering SD-WAN and SASE connectivity via satellite. Vodafone Business, for example, embeds satellite access directly into its SD-WAN and SASE portfolio, seemingly via a partnership with AST SpaceMobile. The Starlink connection differentiates WEI in this regard, with the added cachet of SpaceX’s recent mega-IPO, as incorporating Starlink with Musk AI venture xAI.

That IPO claimed Starlink's network currently serves about 10.3 million Starlink subscribers, with median residential download speeds of 225 Mb/s during peak hours and median latency of about 25 milliseconds, as supported by roughly 9,600 broadband and mobile satellites in orbit.
