Zscaler has updated its digital experience monitoring (DEM) solution with end-to-end network visibility and other features.

The security firm has refreshed Zscaler Digital Experience Platform (ZDX) with ZDX Network Intelligence, claiming to offer visibility across the entire network traffic path, including last-mile ISPs, intermediate carriers, and Zscaler data centers.

The feature collects telemetry on latency, packet loss, and jitter through lightweight probes every five minutes, leveraging machine learning (ML) to baseline metrics and automatically flag deviations. This can enable network operations teams to better pinpoint performance bottlenecks by drilling down to specific ISPs, geographic segments, and individual routers within autonomous system numbers (ASNs), which identify a large network connected to the internet through one routing policy.

In addition to telemetry gathering, Network Intelligence provides network teams with real-time alerts based on custom thresholds that show whether other Zscaler users are similarly affected by network issues.

Also new to ZDX is Device Scoring and Remediation, which offers a unified health metric for network devices through evaluation against a range of hardware and software indicators, such as CPU load, memory use, disk latency, Wi-Fi quality, and crash frequency.

With this shift-left approach, security teams can better identify devices likely to cause poor user experiences before problems are reported. According to Zscaler, the feature also allows IT administrators to deploy vetted fix scripts at scale across numerous devices through one action.

The new Zscaler Managed Monitoring, meanwhile, offers multipath visualization by displaying all concurrent paths taken by traffic, helping network teams spot routing inconsistencies, transit changes, and bottlenecks.

Zscaler’s latest updates follow its integration of managed detection and response (MDR) tools into its Zero Trust Exchange platform alongside CrowdStrike’s Falcon endpoint security service.

More recently, the zero-trust vendor came out on top in Forrester's latest "Wave" ranking of secure access service edge (SASE) solution providers.

Zscaler’s SASE success was put down to a wide network of technology and channel partners, and progress in fine-tuning its pricing and licensing model.

Gartner also recognized the company in a similar ranking, based on what it reported as strong market presence, a simplified pricing scheme, and market innovation.

The analyst firm added caution with a warning about Zscaler’s value, and noting that users pointed to connectivity issues “more frequently than is typical for other vendors in this market.”
