Nokia Federal Solutions (NFS) and Lockheed Martin launched a modular, open‑architecture 5G solution built for the U.S. and allied defense forces.
The solution equips military vehicles and platforms with Nokia's carrier-grade 5G for operational environments, aligned to the open architecture standards of the Department of Defense (DoD). Specifically, it utilizes the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (C5ISR) system and Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS). Lockheed Martin, meanwhile, will provide its 5G Mil unified networking solution.
Nokia claims its CMOSS-aligned plug‑and‑play architecture can reduce complexity and accelerate integration across vehicle and expeditionary systems, while improving interoperability.

"This launch reflects how Nokia is building focused defense capabilities, leveraging our commercial technology and strong partnerships into a meaningful, ready-to-use solution that is deployable by our defense customers.”
"Moving advanced communications from concept into the field requires discipline, scale, and an understanding of how defense systems are built and sustained," Sarah Hiza, SVP for technology and strategic innovation at Lockheed Martin, added. "This collaboration is about rapidly delivering capability that can be deployed, sustained, and trusted over the long term."
NFS was launched in 2024, and operates as Nokia's U.S. government-focused arm. Lockheed Martin has a pre-existing relationship with the Finnish vendor, having last year integrated Nokia 5G services with its Hybrid Base Station solution.
Nokia late last year launch Nokia Defense, a unit providing defense-grade solutions leveraging NFS, with ambitions for expansion in the U.S., Finland, and other allied nations. Nokia Defense recently appointed its first head in Ari Kynaslahti, a Nokia stalwart having spent almost 30 years at the company.
