NetApp snapped up VMware disaster recovery and migration vendor JetStream Software.

No financial details were disclosed, but the deal sees JetStream’s tech added to NetApp in an attempt to help customers protect and recover VMware environments.

Despite several high-profile users migrating off the virtualization platform, NetApp said enterprise customers “continue to rely on VMware” for critical applications. JetStream’s addition will complement the vendor’s existing SnapMirror replication solution, letting users shore up both NetApp deployments and broader VMware installed base running on third-party storage.

“As customers look to unlock greater value from their data while strengthening protection against disruption, bringing JetStream into NetApp expands our ability to help keep their data secure, available, and ready for what comes next,” NetApp CEO George Kurian explained. “This acquisition further positions NetApp as a leader in enterprise resilience and data protection.”

“Joining NetApp allows us to bring our technology to more organizations worldwide and deliver even greater value by combining our expertise with NetApp’s industry-leading data services and cloud storage portfolio,” JetStream CEO Tom Critser added.

JetStream marks the second NetApp acquisition in a month after it picked AI data infrastructure vendor DataPelago in July.

While the latest purchase shores up storage environments, the DataPelago acquisition acts as an alternative to Nvidia’s cuDF framework, processing data wherever it resides, rather than moving it to external compute clusters.
