Fiber provider Lumos shuffled its leadership, with CEO Brian Stading set to retire at the end of the current quarter.

Chief network officer (CNO) David Smith has been promoted to COO of the U.S. firm, while previous SVP for engineering and construction Josh Many will take over Smith’s role.

Stading steps down after three and a half years in the top spot, a tenure that saw T-Mobile US and EQT Infrastructure acquire Lumos in April of last year. A replacement will be announced after what Lumos dubbed a “thoughtful and well-planned transition” taking place over the quarter.

The exec joined Lumos after serving as COO for Northwest Fiber between 2019 and 2022, and an almost nine-year stint as West region president for Lumen Technologies in its original CenturyLink incarnation.

Lumen/CenturyLink was also where new CNO Many cut his teeth for almost 24 years, before joining MetroNet as VP for engineering and design in 2021, where he stayed almost two years before latching onto Lumos as engineering SVP.

New COO Smith has spent more than 13 years at Lumos, following various roles at Cycle Systems and Booz Allen Hamilton.
