Lumen hired former Cox Communications security chief Kim Keever as its chief security officer.
Keever spent well over a decade at Cox, serving as chief information security officer. Prior to joining Lumen, she spent a short stint at Charter-owned Spectrum as a “cybersecurity leader.”
In addition to her role at Lumen, Keever serves on the U.S. government’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, a 23-member group that develops recommendations on connectivity infrastructure security for the President.
She joins Lumen at a time when the company is pushing beyond its core to serve the broader network-as-a-service (NaaS) market, an effort buoyed by its $475 million acquisition of Alkira.
Lumen’s expansion has seen it double down on security efforts, with Keever set to play a key role in spearheading wider efforts here.
A network threat intelligence integration with Palo Alto Networks will help shore up possible attacks as the vendor’s Multi-Cloud Gateway service now reaches more than 10 million U.S. business locations.
As it builds out its security stack, Lumen has added an exec who helped build a cyber risk management program for Cox. There, Keever’s scope encompassed the network as well as threat intelligence, identity management, and resiliency spanning operational technologies and devices, third parties, and customers.
Prior to Cox, she served across several roles at The Coca-Cola Company, including heading up security controls and governance for its enterprise arm, and later CISO for its Bottling Investments Group.
