Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Ericsson validated dual-mode 5G Core deployment model.

HPE, Ericsson, and Red Hat just over a year ago launched a Swedish validation lab focused on fostering integrated multivendor telecom platforms for operators looking to scale core infrastructure for 5G deployments. The trio’s test stack consists of Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core platform; HPE’s ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers and Juniper Apstra fabric; and Red Hat’s OpenShift.

Oded Shihor, innovation head for HPE’s global Ericsson account team, shared the fruits of this labor with a validated deployment officially released as part of HPE Telco Cloud Suite.

According to Shihor, the deployment helps identify integration problems before deployment rather than leaving operators to resolve them individually, referring to the requirements of demanding control-plane and user-plane workloads, network performance, resilience, and coordinated upgrades.

Shihor also claimed the validated architecture can be adapted to individual operators rather than deployed as a fixed configuration, with it able to assess capacity, resilience, security, and networking requirements. Red Hat's OpenShift can then be deployed and configured, with platform-readiness checks performed before Ericsson’s 5G Core is introduced. The validated architecture can also be reused and adapted as operators expand their networks.

No technical details were provided in Shihor’s blog, nor is there information on when validation was completed or when the model first became available in HPE’s Telco Cloud offering.
