Deutsche Telekom (DT) detailed its recent fiber expansion, with 255,000 additional fiber optic connections installed in September.

The expansion sees DT’s footprint stand at 14.4 million households and businesses. That comes after 222,000 fiber connections were added in August, with July’s tally of 273,000 remaining DT’s biggest-ever month for fiber rollout.

Deutsche Telekom plans for its fiber optic network to span more than 559,234 miles (900,000 kilometers) in the third quarter of 2026. According to the firm, it touts 500,000 hybrid connections using a combination of fixed-line broadband and mobile capacity while fiber rollout continues.

In January, the German telecom giant announced an additional €800 million ($889 million) of fiber investment by 2028, on top of its existing multibillion spending plans.

According to its most recent financials, DT added 161,000 customers using pure fiber connections during Q2 2026, lifting fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) penetration to 17.5% of its footprint. However, its overall German retail broadband customer base declined by approximately 20,000 during the quarter.

Earlier this month, DT agreed to acquire infrastructure from Ruhrfibre Essen and Metrofibre covering around 87,000 households in the city of Essen, some of which remains under construction. It plans to integrate the network into its own architecture and make it available to retail and wholesale partners.

Outside of Germany, DT’s Polish subsidiary acquired fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network provider Fiberhost and telecom service provider INEA. Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) sold its stakes in the firms to Deutsche Telekom for €1 billion ($1.16bn).
