Cisco reached a deal to acquire replex, a Kubernetes governance and cost-management startup, the company says will boost its AppDynamics observability platform.
Its technology helps cloud-native enterprise customers better predict costs and provides transparency across Kubernetes environments, replex claims.
“Replex’s deep expertise in Kubernetes, real-time data extraction, and analytics will further strengthen AppDynamics’ world-class product and engineering team as we accelerate the delivery of Cisco’s full-stack observability vision,” AppDynamics GM Linda Tong wrote in a blog post.
AppDynamics is another Cisco purchase: the vendor bought the software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for $3.7 billion in 2017. It provides visibility into application performance, which allows DevOps teams to identify and fix issues before they affect customer experience.
Since then, Cisco has extended AppDynamics’ reach and capabilities by scooping up other startups to build out what it calls its “full-stack observability platform.”
In March, Cisco announced tight integrations between AppDynamics and ThousandEyes, which the company claims eliminates blind spots holding up the adoption of SaaS, internet, and cloud services. ThousandEyes, which Cisco acquired last year for $1 billion, expands AppDynamics monitoring capabilities to include network visibility.
Earlier this year, Cisco acquired Dashbase, which it also plans to role into AppDynamics. Dashbase developed software to help communication service providers troubleshoot chat, video, and voice calls. It’s built on Kubernetes, and it collects and analyzes all the log data across systems to pinpoint problems in real time.
“IT teams need end-to-end visibility of application environments, user experiences, and their business impact,” Tong wrote in her blog about the replex acquisition, citing an AppDynamics report that found 96% of technologists saw negative consequences of not having good visibility and insight into the performance of the whole technology stack.
“We are delivering a market-leading, enterprise-scale and cloud-native observability platform that will meet the growing demands of global technologists as they navigate increasing IT complexity and data noise,” she added. “The addition of replex’s highly skilled team to AppDynamics will enable us to accelerate and broaden the platform’s capabilities and deliver on this strategy.”
