Broadcom has expanded its revamped VMware partner services to the EMEA market.

The VMware Modernization Services venture will see TD Synnex serve as the charter distributor for Europe, as it does for the U.S. market, following Broadcom’s Expert Advantage Partner (EAP) framework.

Like in the U.S., small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the focus of the scheme, with Broadcom looking to accelerate cloud adoption toward its VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platform.

The program works on three fronts: assessment, using VMware tools such as Health Analyzer (VHSA) and Optimization Assessment (VOA); implementation in migrating vSphere environments to VCF, including VMware Live Site Recovery for disaster recovery and vSAN integration for storage performance; and expansion via vSAN storage, deduplication, and compression.

The EMEA expansion seemingly refocuses Broadcom’s efforts on enticing SMEs to stick with VMware. CEO Hock Tan recently suggested smaller firms weren’t worth Broadcom’s attention as it pivots users toward its all-encompassing cloud subscription model.

That pivot has seen the number of virtual machine (VM) alternatives rise in recent months, with vendors and system integrators such as Caylent, OVHcloud, and Platform9 joining the likes of Nutanix in offering exit options for existing VMware customers.

Broadcom also faces strong competition from the major cloud vendors, with research giant Gartner warning that VMware will lose 35% of workloads by 2028, as hyperscalers such as Google Cloud and Microsoft prove an attractive proposition for current customers.
