PLUMgrid raised $10.7 million in a Series A financing from USVP and Hummer Winblad Partners to build SDN technologies.
What's significant about this financing is that it is co-led by Hummer Winblad, a software venture capitalist, who traditionally stayed away from networking because it has historically been a hardware play.
While PLUMgrid is mostly mum on their detailed product plans – clearly they are building software; and based from little they disclosed, I'm taking an educated guess it's in the service orchestration arena for both physical and virtual networks. They've recruited a killer team that includes former Cisco, Sun, and Marvell executives as well as a product manager from Nicira.
