Aeris has announced a new IoT connectivity management service agreement with Japanese telecom giant KDDI Corp to continue its Asia Pacific expansion.

KDDI has been using the Aeris IoT Accelerator platform since 2017, as originally provided by Ericsson before Aeris acquired it in early 2023.

The move comes as a sign of continued demand for the IoT Accelerator platform, which currently manages 104 million IoT devices and 42 million connected vehicles globally.

Post-acquisition, Aeris has invested in the platform’s global enhancements, including performance upgrades, system modernization and cloudification, and expanded international connectivity provider cooperation.

The Silicon Valley-based vendor said these capabilities enable enterprise users to deploy connected solutions with single-SKU delivery and reduced billing complexity across any country.

“The Aeris IoT partner ecosystem and our Agentic AI platform innovations continue to enhance our ability to deliver advanced connectivity services worldwide," Sean Gowran, VP of sales, APAC, at Aeris, said.

“Our unified global platform enables simplified and secure large-scale IoT deployments, allowing multinational enterprise customers, including automotive OEMs, to innovate and scale during significant market growth phases without complexity.”

The comprehensive IoT capabilities of the Accelerator promise to enable automotive manufacturers to deploy connected vehicles in international markets with unified management and support utilities in managing smart grid infrastructure over decades.

Aeris highlighted that other features include integrated security and diagnostics for in-depth visibility and monitoring without requiring device-level software, alongside advanced eSIM orchestration for long-term flexibility and operational control for mission-critical deployments.

Asia Pacific expansion ambitions

Aeris said it sees this latest agreement as a service continuation while it is expanding its platform capabilities to support growing enterprise connectivity requirements worldwide.

The operator is targeting the Asia Pacific as a significant market, with the region leading global IoT connectivity growth and projected to expand by 21.7% annually through 2033.

In a previous regional effort, Aeris partnered with the enterprise arm of Globe Telecom, Globe Business, to launch the Aeris IoT Accelerator platform in the Philippines.

Announcing the development in February this year, Aeris took a step to help Filipino businesses and multinational automotive manufacturers scale and monitor their connected device fleets both inside and outside the country using built-in, zero-trust network security.

KD Dizon, VP and head of Globe Business, said at the time: “We recognize that as sectors like automotive evolve, the need for seamless, native connectivity becomes a matter of operational excellence and cost-efficiency for our customers.

“By bringing this global expertise to the Philippines, we are empowering our partners to move past technical barriers and focus on achieving their boldest ambitions.”

Aeris also widened its reach across the broader APAC territory by extending its partnership with Bridge Alliance, a premier mobile alliance representing over 35 major mobile network operators across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.

This deal, announced earlier in the year, marked the commercial launch of Aeris IoT Watchtower into the APAC market, making it the first fully integrated cellular IoT security solution for APAC enterprises.
