Former Intel CEO DiesPaul Otellini, former Intel CEO, died on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at the age of 66. Otellini enjoyed a long career at Intel, beginning in 1974. During his tenure, he held a variety of positions from chief of staff to VP and general manager of a number of Intel’s groups. He became the company’s fifth CEO in 2005 and served until his retirement in 2013.
As the first non-engineer leader of a Silicon Valley giant, Otellini was known for pushing Intel into the future and transforming its operations. During his time as CEO he built Intel’s annual revenue from $34 billion to $53 billion. He also focused on new customers and secured Apple PC business.
F5 Names New Head of Global ServicesCloud and security software provider F5 recruited Steve McMillan from Oracle to serve as the company’s EVP of global services.
McMillan has 25 years of industry experience, primarily in global services management. He most recently served as senior VP of customer success and managed cloud services at Oracle. Prior to this role, McMillan held a number of leadership roles over a 19-year period at IBM.
This appointment follows a number of leadership changes this year at F5. Most recently, COO, Julian Eames announced plans to retire on November 3, at the end of the fiscal year. In April, the company hired Ciena executive, François Locoh-Donou, as the company’s CEO, after a few prior CEO changes.
McMillan started his new role on October 9 and will be based in the company's Seattle headquarters. McMillan will manage the company’s worldwide services organization, covering all things support, consulting, and other associated functions.
Verizon’s Marni Walden Steps DownVerizon’s EVP and President of Global Media Marni Walden will be exiting the company in February 2018. Walden has been with the telecom company for over 20 years, starting as a sales representative in a Verizon store, and rose through the ranks to become the highest ranking female executive at Verizon.
Walden oversaw Verizon's acquisition of Yahoo and her departure comes on the heels of revelations that Yahoo's customer account hack was much larger than first reported. While there is speculation that the two incidences are connected, the company denied such correlation in a Wall Street Journal article, claiming she was leaving to pursue outside opportunities.
On December 31, Walden will transition into a strategic advisor role until February. Tim Armstrong, the CEO of Oath — a subsidiary of Verizon — will retain his responsibility for Oath and will report directly to Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam. The Telematics organization, another area Walden oversaw, will instead report to John Stratton, EVP and president of Global Operations.
Movers and Shakers128 Technology named Susan Graham Johnston, a new hire from British Oxygen Company (BOC) as president. Graham Johnson will oversee day-to-day business and will drive global adoption of the 128T Networking Platform.
Equinix underwent two leadership moves on their executive team. Brian Lillie, a nine-year company veteran, will become chief product officer and oversee a number of teams as a part of the company’s new global product organization. Laura Ortman will replace Lillie as chief customer officer.
Following the retirement of JPMorgan’s global chief information officer, Dana Deasy, Lori Beer, formerly the company’s chief information officer, has been promoted to succeed Deasy.
FireEye hired Vasu Jakkal as the company’s CMO. Jakkal is transitioning to FireEye from her role as VP of corporate marketing at Brocade.
David Amzallag, formerly Head of Network Virtualization, SDN and NFV at Vodafone, joined Radcom as a special strategic advisor.
Dell EMC’s president of Infrastructure Solutions Group, David Goulden, will step down at the end of the fiscal year. Jeff Clarke, vice-chairman, products and operations at Dell EMC, will take over his responsibilities and oversee the company's Client Solutions Group and Infrastructure Solutions Group.
Shlomit Weiss joined Mellanox as its senior VP of silicon engineering, after serving as Intel’s VP of silicon development.
A platform for app-enabled business, Quick Base hired Jay Jamison, formerly of HPE, as senior VP of strategy and product management.
Inocybe Technologies hired two open networking veterans, Anton Ivanov and David Spence, to join their expanding open source networking team.
Paul-Henri Ferrand was promoted to president of Google Cloud, after joining Google in 2014 as VP of U.S. sales and operations.
DigitalRoute appointed Andreas Zartmann as CEO. Zartmann replaced Johan Bergh, who stepped down in order to focus on the company’s sales organization.
Anshu Agarwal left her role as head of solutions and partner development at HPE to serve as Cedexis’ CMO.
Longtime technology and global telecommunications leader Dr. Krish A. Prabhu joined Cloudify as a special strategic advisor. Dr. Prabhu will guide the company on delivering next-generation NFV/SDN services.
B. Yond appointed former Mirantis executive, Rikard Kjellberg as the company’s CPO. In this role he will lead B.Yond’s automation and machine-learning product innovation.
After stepping down in May, Ericsson’s Rima Qureshi was appointed Verizon’s chief strategy officer.
India-based Tata Communications appointed Bob Laskey as head of Americas as part of its strategy to expand its footprint and visibility in other regions.
Niklas Heuveldop was named the new head of North America at Ericsson, a post has held on an interim basis since May.
