Metaswitch announced Wednesday that it’s hired Martin Lund as CEO, while former CEO John Lazar is staying with the company as chairman of the board.
While Metaswitch’s headquarters are in London, Lund — who has previously worked for Cadence Design Systems, Broadcom and Intel — is based in San Francisco, a company spokesman says. With service providers moving toward NFV and SDN, Metaswitch is working with its customers to implement software-based networks and services and Lund appears to be a solid choice based on his Silicon Valley experience.
Since 2012, Lund served as senior vice president and general manager of Cadence’s IP group. During a 12-year stint at Broadcom, his titles included senior vice president and general manager of the network switching business. Lund also held engineering positions with Intel.
Last month, Metaswitch released the 1.0 version of its open source data center network virtualization system, called Project Calico, after initiating beta testing in July of last year. Calico is designed to bypass the limitations of Layer 2 VXLAN with network virtualization on Layer 3 for data centers.
