Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced it has pre-provisioned its GreenLake private cloud enterprise (PCE) portfolio in Equinix's International Business Exchange (IBX) colocation data centers in a move to radically reduce customer time-to-value and energy consumption, HPE GreenLake Cloud Services Solutions SVP and GM Vishal Lall told SDxCentral.

In light of rising public cloud and data egress costs, along with increased compute environment complexity and sustainability regulations, organizations are turning to hybrid cloud models that support workload rebalancing "with proximity to partner ecosystems," Lall explained. This is an important strategy for enterprises to realize ideal levels of compute cost and performance across hybrid cloud environments, he said.

HPE's PCE assets are pre-provisioned and ready to be consumed in Equinix IBX data centers, offering enterprise customers "the ability to rapidly deploy private clouds" while taking advantage of "the choice and flexibility offered through modern private cloud capabilities," Equinix Data Center Services EVP and GM Jon Lin told SDxCentral.

HPE GreenLake for PCE and GreenLake for PCE Business Edition will be available in August 2023 at a select number of Equinix IBX data centers. The two vendors plan to expand the offer to additional IBX data centers and HPE GreenLake services in the future.

By beginning with GreenLake's private cloud portfolios, HPE "aims to provide customers with a wide range of workload management and payment options to cover a broad spectrum of their private cloud needs," Lall explained.

Equinix's colocation ecosystem provides unique access to thousands of enterprises, networks, hyperscalers, carriers and other partners; strong interconnection and networking options; and other digital infrastructure services.

In other words, the colocation provider's ecosystem "caters to the same class and category of customers who want to connect their HPE GreenLake environments to their existing Equinix deployments and who value interconnection with the thousands of Equinix colocation consumers," Lin said.

"Equinix offers HPE GreenLake a consistent, best in class platform in effectively every critical market that GreenLake customers want to be in," Lall added.

Equinix IBX data centers provide protection and security via networking, facility and power safeguards, Lin said, including inter-IBX connection through a private and on-demand network that supports data synchronization, replication and backup. IBX data centers each have numerous security checkpoints, physical security traps, biometric readers and uninterruptible power supply systems.

"Equinix connectivity services feature one of the highest network densities available," Lin touted.

Equinix and HPE "share a long-standing commitment to helping customers achieve their sustainable IT goals," Lall said, noting HPE technologies "typically consume 30% less power."

The pre-provisioned nature of this hybrid cloud offering also mitigates unnecessary equipment use or purchases, addresses data center cooling needs and is powered by 96% renewable energy in Equinix's "ultra-efficient facilities," Lin said.

In addition, the hybrid cloud service enables energy consumption to be scaled up and down depending on demand.

"Placing the HPE GreenLake platform in energy-efficient Equinix facilities creates further possibilities to achieve or surpass sustainability targets faster," Lall argued.
