CENGN is a member of OPNFV, the open source platform for network functions virtualization (NFV) formed under the Linux Foundation. NFV leaders can use the CENGN Pharos Lab to test the interoperability of next-gen products.
The Pharos Lab will use Kontron’s SYMKLOUD, a software-defined networking (SDN)/NFV-enabled infrastructure platform, to provide a suite of vendor test resources. These resources will ideally support OPNFV applicability across multiple environments and vendors.
The Pharos Project has helped CENGN and others develop an OPNFV lab and is responsible for providing visibility into the lab and its usage. However, community labs are hosted by individual organizations like CENGN, and are not controlled by Pharos, which is a global NFV community of test labs designed for hosting integration, deployment, and testing of the OPNFV platform.
CENGN also plans to employ OPNFV-sponsored interns to work in the lab. Each intern will work with a mentor from the OPNFV community to gain experience in next-gen technologies.
The Pharos project has 13 existing OPNFV labs to date spanning North America, Europe, and Asia. Companies that are involved include China Mobile, Dell, Ericsson and Huawei just to name a few.
