Boston-based investment firm Berkshire Partners is teaming with Masergy’s management team to purchase the company from private equity investor ABRY Partners. The deal, announced yesterday, is expected to close later this year.
According to Masergy CEO Chris MacFarland, the acquisition will not change anything for customers or employees, but the additional capital from Berkshire Partners will help the company increase its investment in sales and distribution as well as evolve its software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) products.
“We are excited about what we can bring to market for large enterprises,” MacFarland said. “This will allow us to expand our solutions categories and expand geographies as well.”
Masergy has enterprise clients in more than 75 countries. In September, the company added Silver Peak’s software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) technology as a “function” within its NFV portfolio.
