The telecommunication industry’s 5G standalone core deployments have dropped off as operators are now looking to squeeze profits from their initial investments.

"But that’s not to be unexpected and we’re prepared to participate in that," AT&T COO Jeff McElfresh said.

5G adoption was “at the forefront of everyone’s attention,” but that attention was increasingly on ways it can be better monetized by operators.

“Like everyone's aware, this is kind of a 10-year cycle, and we are, I would say, three or so years into it," Cisco's Jonathan Davidson said.

Forrester analysts estimate AT&T could see up to $1.5 billion in costs associated with the outage.

"We have the ability to give that business to who merits it," Bernard Bureau, VP for wireless strategy and 5G services at Telus, explained.

The tests echoed what has been a rash of 5G network-focused API efforts from operators around the world.

Nokia views this SaaS opportunity growing at around 20% year over year, becoming a $2.6 billion total addressable market by 2026.

Dell's latest round of updates also further the vendor's ongoing push into the telecom space.

Opanga Networks unveiled new leadership and new services targeted at helping network operators tap artificial intelligence to optimize network performance.

“I think right now they're in great shape,” Gimmie Credit's Dave Novosel said.

“I'm approaching this year, like I do every year, as a big year, and I'm excited for it," Verizon Business SVP Scott Lawrence said.

The newly funded initiative is also targeted at countering 5G and open radio access network development from China.

“I don’t advise people to engage with VMware right now,” Forrester Research's Tracy Woo said.

But they did leave themselves just enough wiggle room to back out of that if needed.

However, that data sits in 29,000 different data sources.

“We continue to believe the impact from fixed wireless is temporary,” Charter CEO Chris Winfrey said.

With many different cloud providers and ways to connect to the cloud, Verizon is aiming to cure the multicloud headache for enterprise customers.

CEO Pekka Lundmark wants observers to follow the timing and openness of open radio access network deployments.

But the carrier will look to expand the service’s reach into the enterprise space.

The terminated distribution agreement came as Broadcom readies to launch a controversial new partner program and discontinues many standalone VMware products.

But it remains focused on solidifying the open tenets of the open radio access network ecosystem.

The combined HPE-Juniper Networks operation is set to provide a more complete 5G support package for operators.

Western governments have been looking at open radio access network technology to expand the availability of equipment from vendors outside of China.
