I am guessing at this point that everyone is at least somewhat aware that the current coronavirus outbreak is significantly impacting our world, country, community, industry, and day-to-day lives.
As of this writing, the Center for Disease Control counts more than 1,200 total cases and 36 deaths in the U.S. Worldwide, more than 125,000 cases have been reported to the World Health Organization and more than 4,600 deaths.
This is serious.
Like most of you, we here at SDxCentral are taking this thing seriously. Internally, we have limited the number of visitors to our offices and externally have limited our travel plans. The latter of course has been somewhat eased by the fact that most if not all of the events we typically travel to have been either postponed, moved to a virtual model, or canceled. Those last two are a big hit for the industry and for us as we relish the ability for face-to-face interactions and interviews that are not quite the same in a virtualized environment.
The changes are really nothing in light of the real impact COVID-19 is having on the world. And we get that.
While our day-to-day operations have changed, our mission has not: To arm technology professionals with the information and context they need to understand the rapidly evolving IT infrastructure market, enabling them to lead their organizations into the technology-driven future.
With that, you will not see any noticeable difference in SDxCentral's coverage of the industry as we all work our way through this new environment. We are all prepared to work remotely while reporting on the top news and events impacting the market and hope that we can all stay in touch – and healthy! – throughout this process.
If anything, our industry has become more important as it forms the backbone of today’s interconnected telecommunications networks that are critical for what is becoming a growing distributed workforce. SDxCentral will be digging deeper into how the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak is impacting our industry and what steps the market is taking to deal with new challenges.
While many of the events that we are all used to attending have been altered, we are still focused on covering those that are still happening and keeping in touch with the companies that are scrambling to figure out what to do with those events that have been canceled. If you have any news planned around these events, let us know! And don’t be surprised if we bug you a bit more than normal during this period.
We know everyone is scrambling with how to deal with this new reality. We are in the same boat. We hope we can help a bit by stating that we are still here and will continue to be here acting as an unbiased and professional news reporting conduit between the newsmakers and the market.
