When I joined SDxCentral, I’d already been writing about technology (primarily in the wireless realm) for more than two decades. I’ve written about analog networks, the battle between CDMA and GSM, and all the various “Gs” from 3G to 4G and now 5G.

It seemed like a natural transition to take my reporting expertise in the wireless industry and embrace the world of software-defined networking (SDN) and virtualization. And I’ve enjoyed learning new acronyms and unraveling complex networking concepts.

During my tenure here I’ve seen open source initiatives debut and gain new members rapidly. I’ve seen 5G transform from a vague concept to standardization to (nearly) reality with the launch of Verizon’s pre-standard 5G Home service. And I’ve watched new technologies like SD-WAN take flight.

SDxCentral was still in its infancy when I joined the company. Today our editorial team is almost twice the size as it was when I started and we have a daily newsletter that gets delivered to your inbox with all the latest news and industry developments. We’ve also added other types of content such as opinions, topic-specific newsletters like the SD-WAN Insights, and eBriefs, which provide readers with more in-depth coverage of certain topics.

This industry is filled with a lot of smart and talented people and I'm honored to have been able to write and report on such a dynamic business during a time of tremendous change.

The reason for this trip down memory lane is that this is my final editor's note. I'm about to embark on a new adventure. In a few months I will be taking off on a cross-country trip to explore the U.S. in a teardrop trailer. I’ve spent too many days wandering around convention centers and attending trade shows. During my time off I want to explore the outdoors and visit some places that I’ve always wanted to go but haven’t had the time. You can keep up with my travels by following me on Twitter @suemarek.

I leave you in the very capable hands of a fine group of journalists. My colleagues Linda Hardesty, Dan Meyer, Jessica Lyons Hardcastle, and Ali Longwell will continue to report on all the latest developments in the networking world.

To the readers of SDxCentral, I hope you have enjoyed reading my articles as much as I've enjoyed writing them. --Sue
