Illumio brought new blood to its executive office with the hire of former White House employee Nathaniel Gleicher today, announcing he would take on the role of head of cybersecurity strategy.
No stranger to security endeavors, Gleicher joins Illumio after acting as the National Security Council's director of cybersecurity policy for just shy of three years. Before that, Gleicher held a role at the Department of Justice.
In his new position at Illumio, Gleicher will head up the leadership and policy engagements of the company's adapative security technology. More specifically, Gleicher's duties fall into the awareness and implementation buckets — i.e., getting Illumio more involved in the greater cybersecurity conversation, as well as making sure Illumio customers are up to speed with its Adaptive Security Platform (ASP).
His resume runs the gamut of the technical, legal, and policy sides of cybersecurity, and Illumio chief commercial officer Alan Cohen says Gleicher's added experience with hands-on software development made him a great resource for the company.
"There are relatively few people that can bring these three perspectives together, but cybersecurity sits at the intersection of all three," Cohen writes in an email to SDxCentral. "Nathaniel's experience will enable him to engage with Illumio's customers, policy agenda, and technology at both a strategic level and a technical level."
Last spring, Illumio got a $100 million investment bump, bringing its total funding to $142.5 million. That, plus the company's rapid staff growth — it doubled its employees to 150 in just three years — reflect Illumio's ability to attract big-name customers such as Morgan Stanley and NTT.
