Scott Mann has joined British virtualization firm StorMagic as its global SVP for sales.

The Netherlands-based exec fills the role following an 11 year stint at edge computing firm Scale Computing, where he most recently led as global channel chief.

StorMagic framed the hire as helping to scale up its channel-first go-to-market strategy while broadening customer adoption across key edge computing markets.

Founded in 2006 in Bristol, U.K., the firm specializes in software-defined storage and security for edge computing, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and retail. One of its leading products is its software-defined virtual storage area network (SvSAN), which directly competes with virtualization ware such as VMware vSAN.

“Scott brings extensive global experience leading international sales and channel teams, with a strong track record of scaling partner ecosystems and driving growth, making him a tremendous addition to the StorMagic team," StorMagic CEO Susan Odle noted in a statement. “StorMagic is excited to work closely with Scott to expand our reach in helping partners, help their customers, navigate VMware migration and hardware cost challenges with our simple, reliable, and trusted virtualization software.”

In a company blog regarding his appointment, Mann nodded to the current turmoil in VMware's ecosystem that has seen customers look for new solutions, offerings which have been coming in thick and fast following Broadcom's controversial acquisition of the virtual machine giant.

"In addition to the broader edge opportunity, I see significant momentum around customers actively looking for practical alternatives to traditional virtualization platforms," Mann wrote. "Many organizations are being forced to rethink their infrastructure strategy and are looking for solutions that are simpler, more predictable, and better aligned to edge and distributed environments."

Mann started as a senior account executive for Scale Computing’s Canada operations in 2014, before becoming country manager for the region within the space of a year, and eventually being tapped to lead North American channel operations in 2018. Four years later he would assume various VP roles in the global space, landing the managing director/VP role of Scale Computing International in 2025.

That last stint saw Scale acquired by edge and network business Acumera, with the combined unit rebranded last summer under the same name of Scale Computing, bringing together Scale’s virtualization and hardware offerings with Acumera’s AcuVigil platform.
