Viavi Solutions added private 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi capabilities to its XEdge cloud-based edge monitoring platform. The Arizona-headquartered firm touted consistent visibility into network performance and device connectivity with the updates.

The upgrade adds new sensor XEdge v2, described as a portable unit designed for in-depth monitoring, consisting of up to four cellular modems.

Another sensor, XEdge Lite, is a compact solution supporting a single cellular modem, modified for fixed installation and dense/distributed placement to target permanent monitoring across private networks. Available in a standard form factor, the sensor is deemed suitable for harsh indoor and outdoor environments such as water and dust-laden settings. Like the entire Viavi sensor line, both are operated through the XEdge Controller.

“The expanded XEdge portfolio generates new ways for customers to collect edge data while keeping the focus on centralized software intelligence,” said Yann Rouveyre, GM for mission-critical and railway solutions at Viavi. “XEdge enables consistent, objective visibility into private network performance, helping organizations ensure reliability and user experience across diverse environments, including campuses, factories, transport hubs, remote sites and secure zones.”

The XEdge update comes after Viavi launched an all-in-one solution for medium and long-range bidirectional testing and certification for hollow core fiber (HCF).

Released this month, the solutions utilizes proprietary innovations from its advanced 8100 Series OTDR modules and ReportPRO software, including algorithms capable of performing bidirectional OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) analysis.
