Veeam CTO Niraj Tolia has stepped down from his position and will continue to support the backup and recovery vendor in a strategic advisory capacity.
As reported by Blocks and Files, Tolia announced on LinkedIn that he left the company at the end of 2025, writing: “As I reflect on my time at Veeam, I am struck by what an incredible journey it has been. We took Veeam Data Cloud (VDC), our SaaS platform, and attached boosters to the plane while it was in flight.”
“I leave full of gratitude for the trust and confidence the Veeam board and the rest of the executive team placed in me. This allowed us to accomplish so much in such a short period of time,” he added.
The exec also reflected on Kubernetes data resilience platform Kasten, which Tolia founded in 2017 before being acquired by Veeam for $150 million in 2020.
That acquisition saw Tolia join the parent company as president and GM for Kasten, before becoming SVP Strategy at Veeam in 2021.
He would then step aside to found AI-driven security and backup-as-a-service (BaaS) startup Alcion in 2022, which Veeam would also go on to buy in 2024. In this instance, Tolia didn’t continue on the Alcion journey, instead becoming CTO of Veeam in September of that year.
This period saw him maintain his role as MD of 396 Signals, where, since 2021, he has provided strategic, product, go-to-market, and technical guidance to software companies and startups.
Tolia said on LinkedIn he would be “helping a few startups along the way” while remaining as a strategic advisor for Veeam.
The end of the CTO's tenure saw Veeam take aim at VMware with an array of hypervisor integrations in an update to its Data Platform.
Veeam Data Platform also saw integration in December with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials for hypervisor-based image-level backup and prompt recovery for virtual machines across private cloud environments.
