Toshiba tapped Franklin, Tennessee-based SD-WAN vendor Cybera to power its TCx point of sale (POS) terminals in the Asia Pacific market.

Under the agreement announced today, Cybera becomes Toshiba's preferred SD-WAN vendor in the region.

"This partnership with Cybera allows Toshiba to realize an important step in our retailer customers' digital transformation journeys — journeys that will enable them to preserve the legacy environments they have created, but also to innovate more rapidly in the future," said Vikrant Bhalla, sales director for growth markets at Toshiba Commerce, in a statement.

Toshiba's deployment will leverage Cybera's CyberaOne cloud management platform, to not only provide a secure connection to the cloud and embedded security but dynamic routing for business-critical applications and wireless failover in case of an outage or brownout.

CyberaOne, which was launched in May, introduced a cloud management layer to the company's long-standing SD-WAN platform. The management layer is built on an architecture that provides SD-WAN, cloud-based security, and secure application gateway services like firewalls, intrusion and prevention, and threat management.

"This new partnership will enable Toshiba to continue innovating and help its retail customers deliver an engaging and fulfilling experience," said Hubert Da Costa, senior VP and general manager of Europe and Asia Pacific operations at Cybera, in a statement.

Winning Toshiba's business is a huge deal for Cybera, according to Da Costa.

"Toshiba has been around for a long time. They are the No. 1 POS provider globally and they're in the top three by country," he said.

While Cybera's partnership with Toshiba will initially be limited to the Asia-Pacific market, Da Costa sees this as a stepping stone to a global partnership.

"Ultimately this first dip of the toe in the water with [Asia Pacific] is to make sure that we get everything run ready, so that when we do go global with them, eventually, we're a finely tuned machine," he said.
