ThousandEyes, a network performance monitoring company, today announced the release of its Endpoint Agent to help IT teams troubleshoot and resolve end-user performance issues.

The Endpoint Agent monitors the web/application layer and network layer from the perspective of end-users' laptops and desktops. The agent gathers a number of data sources behind the scenes to present performance data, network paths, and response time in a user-friendly way.

The product is for enterprises and organizations to install so their corporate IT teams can help employees with connectivity problems, says Nick Kephart senior director of product marketing at ThousandEyes.

“When it comes to end-user performance issues, we look at the biggest use cases, which we found to be corporate offices and remote workers,” Kephart says. "You would be able to drill into a single employee’s network connectivity over time and then compare it to another employee’s who is sitting in the next cubicle next over.”

By looking at end-user connectivity affecting specific locations, ThousandEyes’ Endpoint Agent is able to collect data of network infrastructure, providing a visualization path for IT teams to work from when there is a network or application connectivity issue.

Although the product does not self-fix the issues it is able to detect, it provides IT teams with a baseline of information to fix a problem they couldn’t before.

“The long-term goal is to provide corporate IT teams with enough information to be able to prevent end-user connectivity issues before they even occur,” Kephart explains.

In July, ThousandEyes released its Internet Outage Detection tool, and when asked if it will be incorporated into its Endpoint Agent Kephart said, “Today, we do not show the outage detection information in the endpoint agent, but we will use the Endpoint Agent to help detect outages,” because of its accuracy in monitoring connectivity in specific locations.
