T-Mobile US touted a CFO succession plan, continuing CEO Srini Gopalan’s running overhaul of the telecom giant’s executive suite.
Jessica Uhl is set to replace long-standing CFO Peter Osvaldik in February 2027, and move that was perhaps telegraphed by Osvaldik’s recently signed one-year contract extension. Uhl will initially take on the “CFO Designate” title in mid-September, and will work alongside Osvaldik through an “extended transition period.”
Uhl has most recently served as a board member or advisor to a handful of organizations in the energy space, with the most recent executive role as president of electric power company GE Vernova. Previous to that, Uhl spent 18 years at Shell, including five years as CFO, and had a six-year stint at Enron that included stints in Houston, Panama, and the Netherlands.
“T-Mobile has an extraordinary team, and I’m energized to join as we build on this time of tremendous opportunity and growth,” Uhl wrote in a LinkedIn post. “T-Mobile’s commitment to its customers and employees has enabled its exceptional performance and is one of many aspects that attracted me to the company. As T-Mobile continues to drive innovation in this sector that touches all of our lives, I’ll bring my experience in strategy, capital allocation, and building world class teams to build on the momentum already established – continuing to deliver the best experience for T-Mobile’s customers.”
Gopalan offered similar plaudits on the move.
“I am thrilled to welcome Jessica to T‑Mobile,” Gopalan noted in a statement. “She brings deep financial and strategic acumen, capital allocation expertise, and an innovative growth mindset that is a perfect fit for T‑Mobile’s next era. Jessica has a distinguished track record leading complex businesses, effectively balancing strategic investments with financial and operational discipline. After a thorough search process, I am confident Jessica is the right leader to help shape our growth agenda as CFO, and I am grateful she and Peter will collaborate through an extended transition period to ensure continuity and a seamless succession.”
Osvaldik has been with T-Mobile US for 10 years, taking over the CFO role in 2020. Osvaldik will assume a “strategic advisor” role once Uhl takes on the full CFO position in February, with a “planned retirement from T-Mobile” once his current contract ends on July 1, 2027.
Planned succession
T-Mobile US framed the move as part of its “long-term leadership succession planning,” planning that coincides with new leadership at the top. Osvaldik had originally taken on the CFO position alongside Mike Sievert taking on the CEO role, moves that had both executives replacing then CEO John Legere and CFO Braxton Carter following T-Mobile US’ acquisition of Sprint.
That executive transition is now underway under Gopalan, who took over the CEO role late last year. Gopalan had been serving as COO, a role that was then filled by long-time T-Mobile US executive Jon Freier.
T-Mobile US also recently noted plans for Mike Katz, its chief business and product officer, to step down later this year; the hiring of long-time AT&T executive Chris Sambar to the position of chief enterprise officer; the promotion of recent hire André Almeida to chief marketing, brand, and broadband officer; and John Saw expanding his oversight of the carrier’s network operations.
