StorOne and cybersecurity startup Myota partnered to deliver an enterprise S3 storage platform that combines flash optimization technology with built-in data protection capabilities aimed at reducing storage costs, while improving cybersecurity resiliency.

The joint offering pairs StorOne’s Real-Time Tiering architecture with Myota’s cyberstorage technology, creating what the companies describe as a scale-out S3-compatible storage platform designed for enterprises managing growing data volumes and increasing security threats.

The announcement comes as organizations face mounting pressure to control infrastructure costs while protecting data from ransomware and other cybersecurity attacks. Flash storage remains more expensive than hard disk-based systems, and many enterprises are looking for ways to reduce their reliance on high-cost flash without sacrificing performance.

“Organizations today are under increasing pressure to control flash costs while strengthening security and resilience,” Marc Staimer, president of Dragon Slayer Consulting, explained. “Solutions that reduce reliance on expensive flash while providing strong data protection, security, and operational flexibility are becoming critical for modern IT environments.”

StorOne’s contribution centers on its Real-Time Tiering technology, which automatically keeps active data on flash storage while moving less frequently accessed data to lower-cost media such as hard drives. The company said the approach can increase flash utilization efficiency by as much as nine-times compared with traditional architectures by minimizing the amount of flash required to support enterprise workloads.

Myota adds a security layer through its patented Shard and Spread technology. Rather than storing files as complete objects, the platform encrypts data and breaks it into multiple cryptographic fragments that are distributed across independent storage locations. According to the company, the resulting fragments are unusable on their own, making it more difficult for attackers to access or reconstruct data even if individual storage systems are compromised.

The companies are positioning the platform as an alternative to cloud-based object storage services, emphasizing S3 compatibility while avoiding cloud egress fees and vendor lock-in concerns. StorOne earlier this year launched the "9x ROI on Flash Program" – an effort to help customers get the best out of their flash-based storage solutions – which pairs an existing flash tier with a lower-cost hard disk drive (HDD) tier.

The solution also incorporates a zero-trust architecture and supports multisite deployments.

One of the more notable claims from the announcement is the ability to recover data to any point before an attack, a capability aimed at organizations seeking stronger ransomware recovery options. Myota also said its architecture provides protection without relying on traditional data redundancy approaches commonly used in enterprise storage environments.
