128 Technology announced today that it has joined Japan-based service provider SoftBank's SD-WAN line up. 128 Technology's SD-WAN service targets customers seeking better connectivity to cloud applications.

The new offering, powered by 128 Technology's "tunnel-free" SD-WAN will be called SD-WAN Type X.

“Our new service, SD-WAN Type X, consisting of 128 Technology’s solution, is designed to help enterprises leverage their network to give users faster and more reliable access to the cloud-based applications that form the backbone of their business,” said Kunihiro Fujinaga, SVP and head of enterprise product and business strategy at SoftBank, in a statement.

128 Technology claims by eliminating tunnels, its 128T Networking Platform and Session Smart Router can more effectively route network traffic to better pathways when there is network congestion.

Softbank says its SD-WAN Type X offering will reduce complexity and operations costs for customers by eliminating the need for firewalls and virtual private networks as well as by cutting cloud rental costs. This is possible, according to 128 Technology, thanks to the company's zero-trust security model.

“We’re very excited to expand our presence in Japan and look forward to providing agile WAN connectivity to SoftBank customers that delivers enhanced security, performance, and agility,” said Tim Ziemer, VP of worldwide sales and business development at 128 Technology, in a statement.

SoftBank Doubles Down on SD-WAN

The introduction of SD-WAN Type X marks yet another investment in the SD-WAN space for the Japanese service provider. In November, SoftBank began offering Fortinet's SD-WAN, security, and network analytics products.

At the time, Fujinaga said SoftBank selected Fortinet because of its ability to reduce onboard efforts and speed time-to-market.
