Happy Friday, everyone! Here’s SDxCentral’s gathering of the week’s news bits around software-defined networking (SDN), network functions virtualization (NFV), and other related topics.

... As reported by CRN, a restructuring of the RSA security division has led to EMC laying off management and sales staff. The changeup has to do with making RSA more aligned with security market trends. Neither EMC or RSA issued press releases on the matter.

... Citrix acquired Sanbolic, a company focused on storage virtualization technology. In his column for Network World, Zeus Kerravala of ZK Research mentioned that the acquisitions might not stop there for Citrix, if the company wants to directly get into networking. Its options could include Big Switch Networks, as its Big Cloud Fabric enables a scale-out option for OpenStack networks alongside VDI policy control, or it could be Midokura, a company with an end-to-end virtualization product, but little recognition in the market.

... More news out of Citrix this week -- Carols Sartorius is the new senior vice president of worldwide sales and services. Also, XenServer 6.5, Citrix's latest release of its commercial virtualization platform, was announced. It will now offer a full 64-bit kernel architecture and supports enterprise-grade networking, storage, and workload management.

... Google Cloud Monitoring went into beta.

... Oracle released its Financial Services Cloud in an effort to expand its cloud portfolio, in an attempt (we assume) to compete with other cloud providers like Amazon.

... BTI Systems said that last year, it enjoyed its strongest annual revenue in company history.

... Parallels updated its containers-based virtualization product to include native support for Docker application deployment.

... Mavenir Systems signed an agreement to acquire Ulticom, Inc., a leader in telecom signaling products.

... Aryaka closed out the year with more than 100 percent year-over-year revenue growth, as well as double its global customer base.

... Applications deployed with Docker will now be protected under CloudPassage.

... PLUMgrid heightened its support of the OpenStack Foundation by becoming a corporate sponsor.

... Mellanox Technologies' CloudX platform and other switch products have been chosen by the Monash University in Melbourne, Australia to provide the fabric for its new cloud data center.

... Goodtech implemented Nexenta's software-defined storage product for its IT systems.

... A new report from Infonetics Research says that telecom revenue growth is plateauing, while datacom growth is picking up.

... Ericsson's former executive VP and head of segment networks, Johan Wibergh, left to join Vodafone as its new CTO.
