Samsung Electronics deployed private 5G network solutions to South Korean banking giant Hana Financial Group.

The deployment was carried out in partnership with SK Telecom (SKT) and covers 16 floors of Hana’s headquarters in Cheongna, a district of Seoul satellite city Incheon. This recently opened "smart office" is expected to hold 3,000 employees, with 2,200 relocating there by the end of the year.

Samsung provided an end-to-end private 5G platform for the project, including radios, baseband equipment, a cloud-native core, a 5G standalone (SA) core, and network slicing services. The vendor touted that workers would use 5G-enabled laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices to access internal systems without being tethered to fixed workstations.

The wireless infrastructure was also expected to allow greater flexibility in managing office space while cutting down the time and resources required for network reconfiguration when workspaces are rearranged. Samsung also talked up security as a key consideration in the private deployment, with the deployment bundling data encryption, firewalls, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) protection, and universal SIM-based authentication.

The deployment also earmarked Hana Financial Group’s broader adoption of AI and data-driven services through secure AI integration into everyday business operations.

“By combining advanced network technologies with our experience across diverse industries, we aim to provide secure and customized connectivity while helping enterprises adopt AI-driven innovations,” Angelo Jeongho Park, EVP and head of strategic sales at Samsung Electronics’ Networks Business, noted.

“Employees need a network that provides secure and reliable access to internal systems and data from anywhere if AI and data are to be widely used in day-to-day work,” Kim Goo-Young, head of enterprise business at SKT, added. “This smart office demonstrates how secure network infrastructure can support new ways of working in the financial sector.”
