Samsung Electronics announced a collaboration with UScellular to enhance 5G network capabilities in the Mid-Atlantic region using Samsung’s 5G solutions. The deployment includes new network architecture utilizing Samsung’s 5G mmWave and vRAN solutions, aimed at supporting UScellular’s fixed-wireless access (FWA) and mobile traffic. Launched in November, the service is already providing improved connectivity for customers.
UScellular’s implementation includes Samsung’s 5G Compact Macro, which consolidates baseband, radio, and antenna in a single unit, allowing for quick installation. Samsung's mmWave technology enables access to the 28GHz and 39GHz bands, facilitating high speeds and low latency, which enhances UScellular’s performance through multi-gigabit speeds.
Mike Dienhart, Vice President of Engineering and Network Operations at UScellular, stated, “Tapping into the ultra-high bandwidth of the mmWave spectrum allows us to unleash new capabilities and deliver cutting-edge customer experiences.”
Samsung is providing its vRAN solution to support UScellular’s virtualized network, delivering additional bandwidth and advanced intelligence features, including energy-saving capabilities. This development underscores UScellular’s efforts in 5G advancement.
Wilf Norrlinger, Vice President of US Sales at Samsung Electronics America, noted, “This collaboration showcases how our innovations in areas such as vRAN and mmWave are unlocking new capabilities.”
The two companies have a strong partnership, focusing on new network configurations to support UScellular’s expanding fixed wireless customer base. Samsung’s contributions to 5G include a comprehensive portfolio of solutions designed to deliver connectivity to millions of users worldwide.
