For the second time in a month, Huawei has acquired an Israel-based company, according to a news report.

Israeli publication Calcalist reports that Huawei spent $42 million to buy HexaTier, a database security startup. Reuters had previously reported that the deal was in the works.

According to the Reuters report, HexaTier had raised $14.5 million from Israeli venture capital firms including JVP, Magma, and Rhodium.

Earlier in December, Calcalist reported that Huawei had acquired Toga Networks, an IT research firm, for $150 million.

HexaTier was founded as GreenSQL in 2009, and while it was able to secure on-premises databases, its focus was databases in the cloud — what is now called database-as-a-service — with a particular emphasis on blocking SQL injection attacks, the most common form of database attack.

The company changed its name in January 2016. At the same time, it named Dan Dinnar as CEO, replacing Amir Sadeh, who remains chairman.

HexaTier is available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform, and it also works with Microsoft Azure SQL Database.
