Denver-based infrastructure execution software firm Render Networks has raised $20 million AUD ($14.3m) and acquired mPower Innovations, as it looks to expand from its telecom roots into the electric utilities sector.
The mPower acquisition brings design and asset management, outage management, and data analytics capabilities into Render’s fold, plugging gaps in the software vendor’s coverage of the full infrastructure asset lifecycle.
Existing customers of the Iron Mountain, Michigan-based mPower are primarily electric utilities firms, which Render believes will give it a foothold in a sector facing what it claims to be a $1.4 trillion investment cycle through 2030, driven by AI data center load growth, the renewables shift, and grid resilience demands.
mPower's CEO, Jason Brown, and founder Greg Calcari, will stay on at Render in currently unspecified senior roles.
“Reliability starts with a shared operational truth,” Brown said. “By joining Render Networks, operators and builders can manage and deploy critical infrastructure with complete accuracy rooted in what is actually happening in the field, not what was planned on paper. Our customers can move forward with confidence and speed, knowing their system of execution reflects verified field reality.”
In addition to the acquisition, Render raised funding from existing shareholders in an effort advised by Black Kite Partners.
The firm said the capital will be used to accelerate its product roadmap, which holds a twofold focus. The first of which, dubbed ‘Geospatial Foundation’, sees its spatial engine transition to Esri’s ArcGIS geospatial platform for electric, utility, and connectivity infrastructure, with mPower’s existing Esri-native architecture brought in to help accelerate the transition.
On the AI infrastructure side, meanwhile, Render revealed plans to bolster its agentic AI infrastructure offering, ClearWay. Unveiled in early March and built on Databricks, ClearWay works across a federated system of specialized agents to boost automation needs without impeding engineering authority.
“Billions of dollars are moving into infrastructure deployment in the next 5 years, and the demand on infrastructure leaders leaves no margin for error,” said Render CEO Stephen Rose. “Our existing shareholders are doubling down on what we’ve built and the market we’re moving into. With mPower, we extend our system of execution across both sectors, ensuring every asset is rapidly monetized, and the entire asset and deployment lifecycle is verifiable, visible, and de-risked.”
