Quest Software unveiled its latest hybrid cloud management technology Foglight Evolve. It's a repackaged update of the company's Foglight Virtualization that includes three new products: Foglight Evolve Cloud, Foglight Evolve Operate, and Foglight Evolve Monitor.
The update will allow IT teams to monitor and automate physical, virtual, cloud, and container infrastructures across hybrid cloud environments all from a single dashboard.
The company claims FoglightEvolve will help IT teams plan changes, optimize resources, and manage costs.
“Resources are allocated and often over allocated, or over time become unused,” said Mike Condy, senior product manager at Quest's Data Protection business. “Foglight Evolve learns about the resource needs of virtual machines (VMs) and will make appropriate recommendations to reclaim or right size the allocation. It further identifies resources which are being consumed but no longer genuinely used such as zombie VMs both on premises and in the cloud.”
Foglight Evolve CapabilitiesCondy explained that the update collects data from data center and cloud environments to engineer a web of relationships between components that can pinpoint a problem as well as determine the root cause.
“It analyzes the data to understand capacity constraints and make resource allocation recommendations across the entire infrastructure, enabling the user to defer hardware purchasing by reclaiming wasted resources," he said. "That data is also used to model performance and costs to work out the best fit for cloud migration, thus reducing cost and risk of poor performance.”
Foglight Evolve Monitor provides oversight and coverage across hybrid cloud environments. This spans predominantly on-premise environments to containers, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and hypervisors down to the storage layer.
The built-in automation is a proactive layer for IT teams to plan and rightsize resources across large environments in addition to identifying trends and potential risks before they impact the business.
Foglight Evolve Operate is an analytics and automation tool designed to optimize resource allocations and provide insight into future resource needs such as capacity planning, load balancing, managing costs, and understanding the effects of change.
The Foglight Evolve Cloud service supports monitoring and migration to Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) public clouds in a single click.
This announcement follows the company’s QoreStore 6.0 update that includes compression, backup-vendor agnostic deduplication technology, and access to encryption technologies designed to keep data secure whether in-flight or at rest for cloud services that operate across Azure and AWS storage platforms.
