SDN startup Pureport today extended support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Transit Gateway using AWS' private, direct connection to Pureport's Multicloud Fabric platform.

The introduction of Amazon's AWS Transit Gateway means customers can now connect their on-premises networks directly to their Amazon Virtual Private Clouds using IPSec virtual private network tunnels, one of more than 150 Pureport-enabled data centers, or from any internet-connected location.

“The combination of Pureport's multicloud Fabric platform and AWS Transit Gateway allows organizations to quickly and easily mesh their on-premises and cloud networks, establishing consistent, low-latency connectivity that is critical for hybrid-cloud topologies,” said Pureport CEO Rich Lee, in a statement.

Founded in 2018, the Raleigh, North Carolina-based company launched its Multicloud Fabric platform in March with the goal of providing private connections from enterprise data centers to the major cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

Pureport claims its technology has a number of benefits, including the ability for enterprises to connect their sites, data centers, and clouds in a full-mesh topology without the need to manually establish point-to-point links or configure peering between each network.

At the root of Pureport's Multicloud Fabric platform is its distributed multicloud router, which Gary McAuliffe, vice president of strategic partnerships at Pureport, called the company's “secret sauce,” in an interview with SDxCentral in August. The router is available as an on-demand service and doesn't require the installation of any additional hardware or virtual appliances.

Pureport Gains Traction

In August, Pureport also announced a partnership with network service provider PacketFabric, which extended the company's Multicloud Fabric platform to more than 150 data centers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.

At the time, McAuliffe said the company expected Packetfabric to be the first of a wave of partnerships with data center and service providers.

However, the company faces something of an uphill battle as many of the service providers that would make for good partners are also Pureport's competitors.
