Proximus has announced a collaboration with BroadForward and Nomios to upgrade its network infrastructure by replacing legacy hardware-based Signaling Transfer Points (STPs) with a cloud-based solution. This initiative is part of Proximus' ongoing modernization efforts while maintaining support for essential legacy services.

Legacy STPs play a vital role in communications by supporting various functions like roaming, messaging, IoT applications, and emergency services. Despite the phase-out of 3G services, analysts suggest that STPs will remain relevant for at least the next twenty years.

The new software-based STP from BroadForward offers flexibility and operates across multiple environments, including cloud platforms. It is designed to support both current legacy signaling and future 4G and 5G functionalities, thereby reducing operational costs and simplifying network complexity.

Laurent Claus, Core & Communication Solutions Division Lead at Proximus, remarked on the shift, stating, “At Proximus, innovation is at the core of our strategy. We are future-proofing our network infrastructure by transitioning to BroadForward's signaling solution.”

Employee involvement from Nomios was highlighted by Kris Verheye, Managing Director, who emphasized the importance of tailored integration in driving technological advancement. He stated, “This collaboration underscores the critical role of tailored integration and technology in driving innovation.”

Taco Schoute, CEO of BroadForward, noted the limitations of traditional STPs, asserting that their software-based solution addresses the evolving needs of network operators. “Proximus's adoption of our platform reflects the growing demand for modern signaling solutions,” he stated.

This partnership reinforces Proximus's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining service continuity in the telecommunications landscape.
