Orange has collaborated with U.K. video software provider Synamedia on a multiple content delivery network (CDN) solution.
Announced at IBC2025 Amsterdam, Orange’s Content Delivery Boost (CDB) solution was integrated with Synamedia’s Quortex Switch offering. The companies claimed the integration was the first of its kind between a telecom CDN and a multi-CDN platform switching provider, and potentially allows content distributors to integrate multiple CDNs, broadening market reach and coverage.
Quortex Switch is an API-based, software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool for managing multi-CDN systems, which can enable providers to configure and expand their distribution capabilities without altering their existing infrastructure or affecting current CDN partnerships.
Released in March, the tool routes end-users to content sources using intelligent traffic management and balancing rules that can be configured based on quality of experience (QoE) metrics, viewer geolocation, and cost. Synamedia claimed the platform supports low-latency, high-quality streaming, with standards-based, mid-stream switching across multiple CDNs to ensure continuous viewing, including in instances of traffic spikes or CDN issues.
The partnership was positioned as benefiting the Middle East and Africa (MENA) region, citing Orange’s CDN footprint in the market, and with Synamedia holding an existing partnership with South African operator MTN Group.
Statista projects over-the-top (OTT) video revenue will rise in MENA to $6.97 billion by 2030, with a total number of 378.2 million users. Worldwide, GlobalData expects the subscription video on demand (SVoD) market to expand to $155 billion by 2027. Providers such as Synamedia are tapping into the boom, with multi-CDN solutions offered by cloud providers including Amazon CloudFront, available through Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft’s Azure Content Delivery Network.
Synamedia boasts a partnership with AWS for its SaaS solutions, including customers such as Malaysian broadcaster Astro. Outside of Orange, Synamedia’s telecom clientele includes Post Luxembourg, Vodafone, and Emirati operator E&.
