Nvidia announced DGX Cloud, an artificial intelligence (AI) service that provides enterprises with access to infrastructure and software needed to train advanced models for generative AI, which will at first be available running only on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

DGX Cloud, launched at Nvidia’s GTC Developer Conference, provides AI supercomputing paired with Nvidia AI software. The service aims to make AI supercomputers available to enterprises via a web browser to simplify on-premises deployment and management.

“We are at the iPhone moment of AI. Startups are racing to build disruptive products and business models, and incumbents are looking to respond,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia in a company announcement. “DGX Cloud gives customers instant access to Nvidia AI supercomputing in global-scale clouds.”

DGX Cloud includes the company's software layer Nvidia AI Enterprise, which is designed to provide end-to-end AI frameworks and pre-trained models to “accelerate data science pipelines and streamline the development and deployment of production AI.” The DGX Cloud’s OCI Supercluster aims to provide a remote direct memory access network, bare-metal compute, and high-performance local and block storage that can scale to superclusters of over 32,000 GPUs.

Several companies have already piloted the service. For example, ServiceNow says it has deployed DGX Cloud with on-premises Nvidia DGX supercomputers to power its AI research on large language models (LLMs), code generation, and causal analysis.

ServiceNow also co-stewards the BigCode project, an open-science generative AI initiative trained on Nvidia's Megatron-LM framework.

Enterprises will be able to rent DGX Cloud clusters on a monthly basis to optimize scalability while developing large, multi-node training workloads. Nvidia claims this will reduce wait times for highly sought-after accelerated computing resources.

Nvidia expects Microsoft Azure will begin hosting the DGX Cloud next quarter, and the service will expand to Google Cloud and other providers “soon.”
