Hybrid cloud disruptor Nutanix doubled down on its latest obsession with managing agentic AI by acquiring compute orchestration and management platform company Ryax Technologies.

The deal, with financial details undisclosed, sees the VMware rival snap up a platform designed to help businesses get the most out of their available computing resources. The French company’s platform intuitively places user AI workloads onto cost-effective hardware, a concept its new parent touts as helping customers better manage costs as well as infrastructure efficiency.

“Agentic AI requires a flexible architecture, simple operations and the ability to use infrastructure far more efficiently,” Nutanix CEO Rajiv Ramaswami said in a statement. “Our acquisition of Ryax helps to directly answer the challenges enterprises face today with agentic AI infrastructure management.”

Management of ever-increasing agentic workloads has quickly become a major market interest for Nutanix, alongside its bread and butter of capturing disgruntled VMware customers.

Earlier this year, it launched Agent Gateway, an AI control plane that centralizes governance and optimization of model usage. Amid token spending spiralling out of control at some companies, Ramaswami and co have moved to create means for customers to set policies around AI on everything from who can use what model, for which workload, and at what cost. Agent Gateway was then followed by Nutanix Enterprise AI (NAI 2.8) updates that added more detailed agent security features.

The acquisition of Ryax looks to complement Agent Gateway and other agentic management efforts, integrating GPU utilization and smart scheduling capabilities directly into Nutanix’s NAI and Kubernetes (NKP) platforms.

Ryax was founded in Lyon, France, back in 2017 by Andry Razafinjatovo and Yiannis Georgiou, alumni of European supercomputer manufacturer Bull. Their team will join Nutanix in France.
