Nokia has announced a partnership with the London Internet Exchange (LINX) to deliver advanced protection against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, marking LINX as the first UK-based internet exchange point to implement such capabilities.
The integration of Nokia Deepfield Defender will enable LINX to provide enhanced DDoS protection with high performance and scale, minimizing disruptions to member connectivity and services. This development comes as recent findings highlight a surge in DDoS traffic, with increases of 166% noted between June 2023 and June 2024.
Mike Hellers, Head of Product Development at LINX, stated, “With Nokia Deepfield, LINX will gain significant cybersecurity capabilities. We are proud to be the first UK IXP to deliver this next generation of advanced DDoS protection to our members, which, in turn, will be providing essential or critical services to their customers.”
Paul Alexander, Vice President and Country General Manager for the UK & Ireland at Nokia, remarked on the growing sophistication and frequency of DDoS attacks, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration in enhancing security for network operators. The Nokia Threat Intelligence Report pointed to a dramatic rise in DDoS attacks, citing that many networks now face over 100 DDoS incidents each day.
LINX will initially roll out the advanced DDoS protection services to networks connected to its LON1 interconnection fabric in London, aiming to bolster the overall resilience of its network and member services against emerging cyber threats.
