Nokia and EOLO have announced the launch of Europe’s first 5G standalone mmWave network in Italy. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity, particularly for underserved communities, by delivering premium capacity and comprehensive coverage.

The four-year agreement leverages Nokia's 5G AirScale portfolio, integrating next-generation baseband solutions and Massive MIMO radios. This new infrastructure is designed to support EOLO’s mission to bridge the digital divide in Italy. The deployment will enable ultra-fast wireless broadband services where traditional wired options are limited.

EOLO’s CEO Guido Garrone emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating it reflects their ambition to foster a network capable of delivering exceptional user experiences across the country. The collaboration aims to achieve 1 Gbps connectivity via newly installed 5G infrastructure.

Additionally, Nokia's innovative Shikra mmWave radios are tailored for urban environments, enhancing the experience with capacities suited for real-time high-definition video streaming and augmented reality (AR) applications. The FastMile 5G outdoor receiver will also play a critical role in providing reliable connections to underserved areas.

Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the potential for improved connectivity in Italy's underserved communities.

This deployment marks a notable advancement in telecommunications within Europe, reflecting a growing commitment to making high-speed internet accessible to all.
