Nokia is adding more software options to its long-standing AVA (automation, visualization, analytics) platform and launching a new digital ecosystem to support data collaboration across an organization. The vendor said the work will help service providers monetize their 5G investments.

The latest move will see Nokia adding its operating support system (OSS), business support system (BSS), and security software applications under the AVA brand. This will infuse Nokia AVA’s artificial intelligence (AI), open APIs, and multi-cloud orchestration into those services.

Nokia also launched its AVA Open Analytics framework targeted at helping communication service providers to more quickly launch data-focused AI projects. This will move data sources from centralized data lakes to a “hybrid data mesh architecture that abstracts technical complexity and enables data scientists to focus instead on the needs of their data use cases.”

The vendor said the framework will be commercially available beginning next year.

Nokia also launched its IGNITE digital ecosystem platform. This builds on the vendor’s Open Ecosystem enablement platform by allowing users to collaborate with application partners on new products.

It includes on-demand product sandboxes to support collaboration using service provider 5G resources and Nokia’s AI, automation, machine learning, and security products.

The platform updates follow what was a relatively positive second fiscal quarter for one of the world’s largest telecommunication vendors.

Nokia posted strong second-quarter financial results boosted by its mobile networks and infrastructure business that continued to ride strong 5G deployment demand. Those results also came in ahead of expectations and built on what was an uninspiring start to the year.
