NETSCOUT SYSTEMS, INC. has announced enhancements to its Arbor Edge Defense (AED) and Arbor Enterprise Manager (AEM) products aimed at combating AI-enabled distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. These updates are part of NETSCOUT’s Adaptive DDoS Protection Solution, designed to safeguard IT infrastructure against evolving cyber threats.

Recent findings from NETSCOUT’s DDoS Threat Intelligence Report highlighted a notable rise in both application-layer and volumetric attacks, which increased by over 43% and 30%, respectively. Furthermore, the proliferation of sophisticated DDoS-for-hire services has made it easier to launch such attacks. In response, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has emphasized the need for enhanced detection and prevention measures to mitigate risks for enterprises.

Chris Rodriguez, Research Director at IDC, remarked on the growing complexity of IT environments, noting that this is often a significant barrier to organizations' mitigation efforts. “Organizations need to invest in proactive, adaptive measures to protect their environments like those provided by NETSCOUT’s Adaptive DDoS Protection solution,” Rodriguez said, highlighting the potential consequences of relying on static mitigation strategies.

NETSCOUT’s ATLAS Threat Intelligence Feed utilizes advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to monitor over 550 Terabits per second (Tbps) of internet traffic globally. This real-time monitoring occurs across more than 500 internet service providers (ISPs) and over 2,000 enterprise sites in more than 100 countries. The latest enhancements leverage AI/ML technology for automated DDoS attack detection and mitigation, aiming to minimize service downtime and protect critical business operations, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

New features in the update include comprehensive management capabilities to address non-DDoS threats, a new appliance for mitigating DDoS attacks at up to 200 Gbps, and extended support for Microsoft Azure public cloud environments, supplementing existing support for AWS. These improvements aim to provide unified hybrid-cloud DDoS protection.
