NETSCOUT SYSTEMS, INC. has enhanced its Arbor Threat Mitigation System with new AI and machine learning capabilities to improve its resilience against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. This update comes amidst a 55% increase in such attacks targeting IT infrastructure and services over the past four years.

The rise in DDoS incidents is attributed to factors including AI-driven automation, the availability of DDoS-for-hire services, and the emergence of IoT botnets. To address these evolving threats, NETSCOUT emphasizes the necessity for adaptive, intelligence-driven security strategies.

Chris Steffen, Vice President of Research at Enterprise Management Associates, noted, “With AI-driven attacks and nation-state threats impacting corporate governance and customer trust, boards expect IT teams to be proactive in adapting to emerging threats like DDoS.” The enhanced system aims to mitigate risks effectively.

NETSCOUT's solution employs a hybrid AI/ML strategy, facilitating data analysis from over 550 Tbps of Internet traffic with cloud-based processing and on-premises automation. This dual approach aims to ensure accuracy while enabling rapid decision-making regarding threat detection.

The updated ATLAS Intelligence Feed within the system now provides more refined capabilities for identifying DDoS attacks, including enhanced Geo-IP functionality that helps pinpoint the geographical locations of threats. This allows for quicker, more accurate blocking of malicious traffic.

Additionally, AI/ML technology has been integrated to enhance detection capabilities for misuse by source hosts, assisting network operators in identifying and blocking outbound attacks that could affect service performance. This update helps streamline defenses against rising DDoS threats.

NETSCOUT’s enhancements also aim to assist service providers, offering benefits like greater availability and reduced downtime, which can create new revenue opportunities.
