Mplify (formerly MEF) revamped its Carrier Ethernet certification program.

The MEF 3.0 certification is now known as the Mplify Carrier Ethernet for Business certification, offering providers a way to benchmark performance across network services. There is also a new Carrier Ethernet for AI certification designed to allow providers to validate the reliability and efficiency of their networks handling AI models.

Available from early 2026, AI certification users can measure data center–to–data center and edge-to-data center connectivity, as well as connectivity between AI peripherals. Mplify said the decision to introduce an AI-focused certification will empower providers to offer smarter networks.

“AI is redefining what networks must deliver,” Daniel Bar Lev, chief product officer at Mplify, explained, adding that the certification will help network operators “to deliver deterministic performance, automated, and intelligent networks that power the next generation of network-as-a-service (NaaS) and agentic AI applications.”

The Industry trade group’s revised core offering then looks to continue the prior work of its long-running certification. Under the new Mplify name, the group said the certification will act as the foundation for its carrier Ethernet program.

All current MEF 3.0 certifications will retain their standing, with Mplify stressing that no retesting is required.

The group said the newly revised program “enables providers to deliver predictable, standards-based services to enterprise customers with confidence.”
